If you are into natural medicine and natural health products whole hog, and you are trying to get pregnant, you might want to consider fertility acupuncture. "But, wait!" you are thinking, "Puncturing the abdomen with needles? Is that not counterintuitive?" Yes, it would seem that way, until you understand how this unusual fertility treatment is administered.

The Treatment in Women

In women, acupuncture for fertility is started three months before you attempt to become pregnant. The idea is to unblock the energy channels to your uterus, ovaries, and Fallopian tubes. Acupuncture needles are placed in various positions in the abdomen and mid-torso to facilitate treatment for the organs responsible for creating eggs, implanting eggs in the uterine wall, and producing specific hormones that hold the eggs in place while an embryo/fetus begins the early stages of development.

Once a pregnancy or implantation of an invitro egg is confirmed, most of the abdominal needles are no longer part of the treatment. The needles in remaining positions at this point of the treatment will continue for ongoing treatments through the twelfth week. At the beginning of the second trimester, all acupuncture stops to ensure that nothing harms the fetus or damages the delicate balance in the body of the pregnant mother.

Treatment in Men

The treatment in men is a little different. Some needles are inserted into the scrotum while a few more are inserted into the sub-pubic region. One or two may be inserted in between the scrotum and the anus, where the prostate gland sits, because the prostate is responsible for creating the semen fluids that help move the sperm up through the vagina to an egg.

Even if the male is ejaculating into a specimen cup to fertilize an egg in a test tube, it is necessary to get the highest quality semen fluids possible. Some of the other acupuncture points for fertility treatment in men are the liver and intestines, which are the same in women. Male acupuncture fertility treatments continue until the female partner is confirmed pregnant and there is no further need to continue treatment.

Male and Female Partners Should Receive Treatment at the Same Time

If no real medical issues are noted in either male or female partners, then acupuncture should proceed for both partners simultaneously. This removes any barriers to getting pregnant for both partners and to put both partners' bodies in sync for procreation. If you miss a treatment, schedule the appointment for the next nearest date to your partner's appointment to stay in sync.
